p53 Pathway

Both DNA replication and cell division are very complicated processes which eventually lead, normally, to progeny cells of identical composition to the other cells in the body. However, there is much potential for error when replicating large amounts of DNA and creating new cells byway of cell division. P53, or protein 53, is a tumor suppressor protein that regulates the cell cycle and aims to conserve stability and prevent mutation of the genome. The tumor protein 53 pathway is observed in a variety of species from mammals to reptiles to fish. In humans, the gene is encoded by the TP53 gene and is located on chromosome 17. P53 works through several mechanisms to control and halt the progression of cancer. It can activate DNA repair when damage is detected, it can halt the progression of the cell cycle when DNA damage is detected, and it can initiate apoptosis (cell death) when the cell is beyond repair.

Anti-PRODH antibody binds against the target proline dehydrogenase (oxidase) 1. PRODH is localized on the matrix of the mitochondria and expressed in lung, skeletal muscle, brain, heart, and kidney tissues. Defects in PRODH are the cause of hyperprolinemia type 1 and susceptibility to schizophrenia type 4. People with hyperprolinemia type 1 are often asymptomatic, and thus sometimes go undiagnosed. Affected individuals have increased levels of proline in their blood. When symptoms are seen, they include seizures, mental retardation, and neurological problems. Schizophrenia is a mental disorder characterized by difficulties perceiving reality including auditory hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized speech. Anti-bok antibody binds against the target BCL2 related ovarian killer protein. Bok belongs to the Bcl-2 family and is expressed in the brain, liver, appendix, and lymphoid tissues. It may play a role in apoptosis.
