NFkB Pathway

Nuclear factor kappa light chain enhancer of activated B cells is a transcription factor that plays a role in inflammatory responses and immune system responses. Two different NFkB pathways exist, classical and alternative, which can be activated concurrently or independently of one another. The main function of the NFkB pathways is to regulate immune function by producing secondary inflammation responses and regulating lymphoid tissue and organ development. The pathways are highly regulated and errors in this regulation have been linked to cancer, inflammatory disease, autoimmune disease, septic shock, viral infections, and inadequate immune system development. When errors occur, natural chemicals such as anti-oxidants as well as drugs like monoclonal antibodies can help to step in and inhibit the erroneous action of the faulty NFkB pathways.

Chronic infantile neurologic cutaneous and articular syndrome is a severe neurological cutaneous and articular syndrome characterized by chronic meningitis, joint pain, and fever. Anti-MALT1 antibody binds against the target mucosa associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma translocation protein 1. MALT1 is expressed in the cytoplasm of cells and in the nucleus. It is highly expressed in peripheral blood calls but also expressed in bone marrow and lymph nodes. MALT1 is involved in nuclear export and plays an important role in T-cell antigen receptor-induced integrin adhesion. Defects in MALT1 are involved in low grade mucosa associated lymphoid tissue or MALT lymphoma. MALT lymphoma, or MALToma, is a form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. MALToma involves uncontrolled growth of B-cell lymphocytes that start in the mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT). Monoclonal antibody therapy with a medication called rituximab may be used in treatment for MALT lymphoma. This drug targets receptor sites on the surface of the cancer cells and helps to stimulate the body’s immune response.
