Neuroscience Markers

Neurons are specialized cells of the nervous system designed to transmit chemical and electrical signals throughout the body. A biological marker is an indicator of a biological state. Often times it may be difficult to take biopsy or living tissue sample for medical diagnostics or scientific research purposes. Neuroscience markers make it easier to look into the nervous system. Neuroscience markers are present in the brain and peripheral nervous system and are indicative of certain neuronal diseases, statuses, or conditions. Neuroscience markers are typically very effective diagnostic or prognostic tools in the treatment of sickness. These biomarkers can also be used to identify neural cells or detect expression details of certain types of molecules. Anti-FLAP antibody binds against the target FLAP. FLAP (ALOX5AP) functions as a membrane anchor by anchoring ALOX5 to the membrane. KIF5A is localized in the perinuclear region of the cytoplasm and in the cytoskeleton. Kinesin 5A is a microtubule dependent motoprotein required for slow axonal transport of neurofilament proteins. Defects in KIF5A are the cause of spastic paraplegia autosomal dominant type 10. Hereditary spastic paraplegia is a disease characterized by progressive stiffness and contraction (spasticity) of the lower limbs. Affected individuals experience progressive difficulty walking (trouble with balance and stumbling) that starts between 20 and 40 years of age. As hereditary spastic paraplegia progresses, individuals experience urinary urgency, hyperactive reflexes, muscle spasms, and congenital foot defects. There are no treatments available to cure the disorder, but there are medications that can help decrease symptom severity and help reduce spasticity. Therapy is centered on maintaining flexibility, strength, and range of motion. Supplemental devices are also used to help with movement as well as communication is patients where the disorder has progressed.
