HLH

Protein families, or protein domain families, are groups of protein domains that are related somehow, usually by gene families or evolutionary parameters. Proteins within a family have common ancestors from which they descend. This gives proteins within the same domain family similar three-dimensional structures, functions, and sequence similarities. Between 40 and 65% of proteins known will show sequence similarity to other proteins. When sequence similarity is known, structural and functional similarity is assumed. The HLH domain family includes a number of eukaryotic proteins that are sequence specific DNA binding proteins that can act as transcription factors. HLH, or helix-loop-helix proteins, share a domain of 40-50 amino acids. As the name implies, the proteins in this domain family are formed of two helices joined by a linker region that forms a loop.

Anti-ascl1a antibody (zebrafish) binds against the protein achaete scute homolog 1a (ash). Achaeta scute homolog 1a is involved in neurogenesis and required for the development of neurons and the pituitary gland. The ash protein also plays a role in the production of olfactory neurons. Small cell lung cancers are named so because the cancer cells are small in size. 10-15% of diagnosed lung cancers are considered small cell. These types of lung cancers spread quickly and early on. Treatment for this type of lung cancer is mostly chemotherapy based as there are no large tumors that can be excised. Anti-BMAL1 antibody binds against the target brain and muscle ARNT like 1. BMAL1 is localized in the nucleus and highly expressed in the adult brain, skeletal muscle, and heart. BMAL1 can assist in activation of E-box element transcription for a number of proteins involved in the circadian clock.
