Goat Antibodies

Antibodies for research or other applications are produced in vivo with the help and assistance of the immune systems of many different host species. Usually, the host species of an antibody should be the same as the target species of the study. However, this may not always be possible. In this instance, species cross-reactivity can be predicted by choosing an antibody from a host species with as close of a similar sequence as possible. A goat antibody is an antibody that is raised and derived from a goat. The goat’s immune system is utilized in order to produce antibodies against a target. At first, the goat is inoculated or immunized by some sort of antigen (typically a protein). The goat’s immune system reacts to this foreign substance as an invader. Thus, antibodies are produced against the said antigen. Typically, many booster injections are given in order to maximize the amount of antibody produced. In order to test if the goat is producing adequate antibodies, small amounts of blood can be drawn and tested. These samples are tested for a titre (titer) or range of amount of antibody being produced. This titre (titer) confirms that the goat is, in fact, creating antibodies. Once enough antibodies are formed, blood is drawn and an antiserum is made. The antiserum contains the antibodies as well as blood serum or plasma. Depending on how many binding sites were present on the immunizing peptide, the antiserum can contain multiple forms of antibodies (polyclonal). The antiserum can be purified and the antibodies extracted. These goat antibodies are useful in many aspects of research for medical and other scientific purposes.

Anti-Met (c-Met) antibody binds against the target Met. Ant-Met antibody is raised in goat. Met is localized in the cellular membrane and expressed in numerous types of tissues. C-Met is a receptor for growth and scatter hepatocyte factors. Met functions in cell proliferation, scattering, morphogenesis, and survival. It often acts as a tyrosine-protein kinase. When MET is activated after being rearranged with the TPR gene, an oncoprotein is produced. Defects in MET protein are thought to be involved in certain types of gastric cancer, kidney cancer, liver cancer, and autism. Hepatocellular carcinoma, as well as renal cell carcinoma papillary, are caused by defects in c-MET. Hepatocellular carcinoma is a primary liver cell tumor which occurs more frequently in human men than woman. HCC is often related to cirrhosis of the liver being caused by alcohol abuse, autoimmune liver diseases, hepatitis, and iron overload. Although treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma is available, it is rarely successful in removing and killing all of the cancer. Unfortunately, affected individuals are likely to die within 3-6 months. Renal cell carcinoma papillary is a rare genetic mutation in the c-met gene causing kidney cancer. Renal cell carcinoma is the most common type of kidney cancer that occurs in the papillary tubes that connect the kidneys to the bladder. Anti-AUTS2 antibody, raised in goat, binds against the autism susceptibility gene 2 protein (AUTS2). AUTS2 is strongly expressed in the brain, muscle, kidney, placenta, lung, and leukocytes. Mutations in AUTS2 are thought to increase one’s susceptibility to developing autism or suffering from mental retardation. Autism is a developmental disorder characterized by poor social development and lack or atypical development of typical social and communication skills. Autism is a spectrum disorder in which affected individuals can show one or more characteristics in a degree of expression from high to low functioning.
