Cancer Metabolism

Cancer is a category of disease that encompasses many different individual ailments. When a cell’s normal replication and cell cycle processes go awry, cells can grow uncontrollably. This uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the body is called cancer or carcinoma. These growths are malignant- meaning that they will become progressively worse and can ultimately lead to death of the organism. Cancers are composed of invasive and metastatic cells. Carcinomas can involve any tissues, organ systems, and even the blood. The malignant tumors essentially invade nearby tissues and have the capability to spread to nearby or even distal parts of the bod through the bloodstream or lymphatic system. Cancer metabolism is often times exploited and used for cancer treatments. The metabolism of cancer is often thought of as cancer’s weak spot. The metabolism of cancer is an extremely rapid, non-discriminative replicating process. This is what allows for it to take over and starve surrounding tissues of their nutrients. Typically, cells will use fuel within itself to carry out the cellular processes for which that cell is created. In cancer, this fuel is used specifically to replicate rather than carry out any other tasks. New aged cancer treatments are targeting metabolic reprogramming in an attempt to control the rate at which cancer can reproduce.

Anti-Bcl-2 antibody binds against bcl-2. Bcl-2 suppresses apoptosis in many different cells and tissues. Bcl2 is located on the mitochondrion outer membrane, the nuclear membrane, and the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. Defects in BCL2 are thought to cause lymphatic leukemia, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and other types of cancers. Anti-angiotensin II antibody binds against angiotensin. Angiotensin is expressed in the liver and secreted in plasma. Angiotensin is a member of the serpin family and is an essential component of the RAS system to control blood pressure, body fluid, and electrolyte homeostasis. Defects in AGT are the cause of susceptibility to essential hypertension and renal tubular dysgenesis. Essential hypertension is a form of high blood pressure of idiopathic origin. Renal tubular dysgenesis is an autosomal recessive disorder that starts during fetal development and results in abnormal development of kidney tubules.
