Blood

Blood consists of many different cells floating around in fluid called plasma. Among these cells are antibodies and red blood cells which determine the blood group that the blood belongs to. There are three different types of blood antibodies which can be found in human blood samples. These include the anti-A, anti-B, and anti-Rh antibodies. On the surface of the red blood cell, three different antigens can exist. These antigens are glycoproteins with unique molecular shapes. There is antigen A, antigen B, and the Rh antigen. Blood types are determined not only by the antibodies present in the blood, but also by the antigens present on the blood cells. There are eight main blood types separated into four categories: A, B, AB, and O. There are positive and negative classifications of each category. For instance, blood group A has A antigens. A positive also has Rh antigens, whereas A negative does not. Blood antibodies are significant because they will latch onto a red blood cell and cause a clumping of cells or rupturing of the blood cell which causes its contents to spill into the body. Blood in blood group A will also have antibodies in the blood that do NOT bind against their native blood cell antigens (B antibodies). Blood group B has B antigens on the surface of the red blood cells which B positive also has Rh antigens and B negative does not. In blood group B, there are also A antibodies. AB group has both A and B antigens. AB positive also has Rh antigens. AB blood has neither A or B antibodies. Blood group O has only Rh (O positive) or no antigens (O negative) on the surface of the blood cells and both A and B antibodies in the blood.

Anti-prealbumin antibody binds against the target prealbumin. Prealbumin is a thyroid hormone binding protein that helps to transport thyroxine from the bloodstream into the brain and also moves retinol, or Vitamin A, through its association with retinal-binding protein. Prealbumin is localized in the cytoplasm and also secreted by cells in choroid plexus epithelial cells, retina pigment epithelium, and liver. Secreted molecules are found in serum and cerebrospinal fluid. Defects in TTR (prealbumin) are the cause of amyloidosis transthyretin-related, hyperthyroxinemia dystransthyretinemic euthyroidal, and carpel tunnel syndrome type 1. Amyloidosis refers to a group of conditions characterized by abnormally deposited amyloid proteins in organs and tissues which causes malfunction. Amyloidosis caused by transthyretin (ATTR) form deposits of one single amyloidogenic protein. Individuals affected by hyperthyroxinemia dystransthyretinemic euthyroidal have excess amounts of thyroxin but no detectable binding protein abnormalities. Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition characterized by pressure on the median nerve in the wrist. This nerve provides feeling and movement to many parts of the hand. Individuals with carpal tunnel syndrome can experience numbness, tingling, weakness, or muscle damage in the hand and fingers. Anti-DARC antibody binds against the target duffy antigen/chemokine receptor. The duffy blood group chemokine receptor is localized on the cell membrane and found in adult kidney, spleen, bone marrow, and fetal liver cells. DARC is a receptor for many chemokines as well as human malaria parasites plasmodium vivax and plasmodium knowlesi.
