B Cells

Immunology is the study of the immune system and its functions. The immune system can function in either specific, adaptive ways or in innate or non-specific ways. The adaptive immune system involves complex antigen-specific immune responses which are specialized and exclusive to certain invaders like bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens. Adaptive immunity is remembered, meaning responses against a re-visiting antigen are increasingly speedy and effective with each future attack. This is due to the rearrangement of DNA in each cell that occurs after an adaptive immune response so that future generations may inherent the ability to combat the specific pathogen. During an initial acquired immunity response, antigens are presented to lymphoid organs (lymph nodes, spleen, tonsils, bone marrow, thymus, etc.) so that B-lymphocytes (B cells) and T-lymphocytes (T cells) can be differentiated into effector cells and reproduced. B cells are produced in the bone marrow and are an essential component of the adaptive immune system. A differentiated B cells can also be called a memory B cell and is specific for a certain virus, bacteria, or other pathogen antigen. These memory B cells "remember" the antigen and thus can produce antibodies faster for future invasions. Other types of B cells include plasma B cells, B-1 cells, B-2 cells, marginal-zone B cells, and follicular B Cells.

CD3 antibody has been used in research regarding B cell lymphoma as well as brain tumors. The CD3 complex is a mediator of signal transduction localized on the cell membrane. Defects in CD3 and anti- CD3 antibody can cause several severe immunodeficiency disorders among a specific group of ailments characterized by low antibody levels and specific immunities due to poor T- cell development. Anti-BAFF antibody binds against BAFF protein. BAFF is a cytokine belongs to the tumor necrosis factor family and is secreted and abundantly expressed on the cell membrane of blood leukocytes, monocytes, and macrophages. BAFF is expressed in lower concentrations in the spleen, lymph nodes, bone marrow, T-cells, dendritic cells, placenta, heart, lung, liver, thymus, and pancreas (lymphoid tissues). BAFF binds to receptors in order to stimulate B cell and T cell function.
